very specific opinion i have:
I don’t think the Lotus Hotel & Casino should automatically acclimate its inhabitants to the modern time period, because the entire point of the hotel is that it’s trying to keep people there and they will never leave, so the ideal scenario is to prevent them from experiencing the passage of time. The best way to do that would be to keep things changing as little as possible from the guests’ perspectives, and convince them they’ve spent less time there than they thought.
Even though the guests are canonically in a sort of daze, Percy specifically notes that time felt extremely distorted in the hotel, not just in the sense of “we were here for what felt like hours but outside the hotel it was a week,” but in more of a “It only feels like we’ve been here like half an hour, but i guess it might have actually been a couple hours or so- oh, a week has passed outside.”
I like to imagine the hotel is actually pretty labyrinthine when you start getting into it, and the deeper you go the older the sections of the hotel start becoming, so you get these really eerie effects when traveling through it. Especially since the hotel would theoretically shift with the other mythological locations, so if you go back far enough the hotel probably starts getting really weird, because also it’s just kind of infinite inside. People have definitely gotten lost in the depths of the hotel forever, outside of the whole never leaving the hotel thing. The di Angelo siblings might have been slightly extra resistant to the daze effect though and so were able to travel further outside their designated era wing than they normally would and start noticing that there was Something Really Weird Going On. But it still probably would have taken them awhile.
#pjo#percy jackson#pjato#riordanverse#lotus hotel#the whole ''the di angelos arent as disoriented by the modern era cause the hotel got them used to it'' hc never made much sense to me#cause that goes against the purpose of the hotel!#they definitely felt like not as much time had passed since they only experienced 3 months from their perspective#which could have helped them adjust just in terms of having felt like they did experience a long period of time away from things#plus they had memory loss so that probably also helped them get acclimated because they just literally *could not remember* what era it was#and thus could go ''oh i guess i probably knew that had been invented. sure.''#but otherwise i still stand by that leaving the lotus hotel is *extremely* disorienting#nico di angelo#bianca di angelo#draft clear-out

I love how my thoughts about my mortal AU (which I need to work on again actually) went from
'kid (Percy) gets sent to his dad who he only learned of a week ago for the summer in a small town in the 1980s. Other kid (Luke) has parentified issues so he runs off with a nonce (Kronos) he met at a gas station and joins a gang. It is rumoured that Chiron and Dionysus are fucking'
to
'Hades should shoot Kronos point blank for his kid. Several children are dead brutally, Dionysus got shot at a church event with all the parents. Almost every parent is getting a redemption arc, INCLUDING ZEUS'.
I mean the reason why Percy got sent to Poseidon in the first place is also currently working to be angsty (Gabe) and also Poseidon didn't tell his wife and child (Triton) that his affair child was going to stay for the Summer. So still fucked up but less so.
Anyways please ask me about my mortal AU
#Bianca gets taken out by a land mine#Thalia faked her own death and only came back when her memorial got vandalized#Apollo was a teen parent and after he got kicked out after the second child at 20. He moved across the street from Zeus and changed his nam#out of spite#Clarisse is from Derry and moved in with her Da because her ma didnt want her around during the troubles#....LITTLE DID SHE KNOW#pjo#percy jackson#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo AU#Also i feel like I have to clarify that Kronos...probably isnt a nonce. He just talks like one#There is a more than 0% chance for canon Kronos to be one tho because ancient Greece had a lot of pederasty#wolffox speaks

Di Angelo Siblings

Sooo, to absolutely no one's surprise the new Percy Jackson reboot kicked me into full-blown pjo brainrot mode again lol. I saw these super cute fits and some vintage photos of Venice alleyways floating around on Pinterest and was consumed with the need to draw the Di Angelo siblings in them (it's probably wildly "historically and geographically" inaccurate for them, but we're just going to have to deal with the fact that I'm dumb and uncultured xD It's the vibes™ that count, okay!)
Psst, wanna see something cringe😂? Found this old sketch of them from one of my first forays into digital art years ago:

And to quote past-me "I can barely look at the old one, but at least that means I improved, aye?"😂
#pjo#percy jackson#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo series#pjo show#shioris_art#fanart#digital art#pjo fanart#nico di angelo#bianca di angelo#di angelo siblings#well if there is one thing I certainly haven't improved on it's being able to make people actually look the ages they're supposed to be#they both still look a bit too old; they also look like they're judging your entire existance but that's probably fair for Hades' kids lol#proportions and colours are still a little off too; but hey this piece had a very complicated history ok xD??#ok so to go on a bit of a semi-personal rant (scroll away now if you don't wanna see woe-is-me-artist ramblings xD):#I've finally made a veeery old dream of mine come true and got myself a graphic tablet with a display 🥺 fancy glove and all XD#my ratty old wacom has served me well but it really makes such a difference to be able to see wtf you're doing when you move the pen xD#so this is my first piece to celebrate the occasion and oh my goodness...#digital art is hard 😭😭#I'm studying to become a textile designer I have used Photoshop extensively for almost the last 6 years#*slaps roof of my brain* this bad boy can fit so many shortcuts and encyclopedic knowledge of all its features in it#I know this godforsaken program inside out but goddamn it have I never felt so dumb before lmao#wow so shocking who knew that designing patterns and making fanart with like sketching and anatomy and shit would be completely different🤪?#but it really is so different I seriously felt so dumb and like I had to learn how to use photoshop completely from scratch again xD#I did all of my other digital works on my tiny ass phone (Ibis Paint my beloved♡) and Ive had years to kinda establish an ok workflow there#in a weird way having more tools and options at my disposal hindered my workflow so much more because I would get into analysis paralysis#over every brush stroke; every colour selection; brightness adjustion etc.#idk it's kinda weird I wonder if people can relate

I’m seeing so many people say ‘I don’t care about Percy or Annabeth but if Nico’s hair isn’t black I’ll riot’ and I’m already so worried for this little ten year old who is probably about 7/8 right now
#pjo#percy jackon and the olympians#nico di angelo#pjo series#Please keep any complaints about this away from a literal 10 year old#I’m glad Nico and Bianca probably won’t be in the lotus casino scene because then their ages wouldn’t be as accurate

so. percy's arc in boo (learning to step back, allowing leo to sacrifice himself despite his loyalty/fatal flaw) sucks. for many reasons.
for one, percy yielding is such an integral part of pjo. all of pjo. but even if u somehow missed it in the first four books, tlo explicitly spells it out. "sometimes the hardest power to master is the power of yielding" hestia says to percy. "i yield when necessary. can you do this?" and then this is the climax of the story. "you are not the hero...it will affect what you do." percy has spent the last five books being told that he's the super powerful chosen one able to save or destroy the world, and he still chooses to yield to someone that has done nothing but betray him. "the line from the great prophecy echoed in my head...my whole world tipped upside down, and i gave the knife to luke." hoo acting like this is a lesson percy needs to learn is an affront to reading comprehension. percy lives bc he yields. and then he does it (yielding) again when he surrenders godhood, and power, to choose other demigods instead. this is not subtle writing.
for two, percy has rejected power, and his title, for the entirety of his story. percy doesn't even fully recognize how powerful he is until the volcano in botl. and he had to be told directly that it wasn't a fluke. then in son, percy immediately rejects the power and status offered to him. repeatedly. reyna offers him praetorship, he turns it down. frank is abt to let percy climb the wall first in the war games, percy says it was frank's claim. percy doesn't even want to go on the son quest but relents bc frank asked him. in moa, percy never demands that he lead. instead, he includes frank where he probably wasn't necessary, supports hazel, encourages annabeth, follows leo and piper's lead, and strategizes w jason. he isn't acting as a leader, but rather as part of a team. percy didn't need to "step back," the writing for the other characters needed to step up.
for three, percy had to be kidnapped and manipulated to be on this entire quest. he's not there bc he has a hero complex. acting like he has to learn to step back when he was quite literally shoved into place is wild.
for four, an integral part of percy's character is freedom, autonomy, and he extends this to the ppl he's loyal to. this is pretty explicitly established in tlt: "you're enough like me to understand," sally says. "if my life is going to mean anything, i have to live it myself." percy respects ppl's decisions. this is one of the first lessons he learns when he becomes a hero and an integral part of pjo: percy has to let sally save herself. percy has to let tyson go to the boiler. percy has to let bianca defeat talos. percy has to let nico walk away. percy has to let annabeth fight. if he loves them, he's going to let their lives mean something. even in hoo, percy still lets annabeth go on her quest alone, despite hating it, despite disagreeing w it, bc it's not his place to tell her what she can and can't do. this is her life. she has to live it. so this plotline doesn't even work it we ignore all of pjo and focus solely on hoo.
this theme of autonomy is especially important bc pjo is abt disability. one of the first things ppl try to take away from u when ur disabled is ur autonomy. the fact that percy vehemently defends it not just for himself but for others is essential to the narrative. percy advocates for other demigods, other disabled kids, and tyson, and he does so while maintaining their autonomy. it's why he's the leader, it's why he's the protagonist, it's why there is a callback to it in every pjo book. trying to act like he wouldn't respect someone's autonomy is a bastardization of this entire theme. which is actually fitting for hoo considering it bastardizes the rest of pjo anyway.
#this is a surprise tool that will help us later#i would edit this except i don't respect boo enough to care#percy#rr crit#hoo crit#anti boo#disability

Unpopular opinion I fear but am I the only one here who ships Perachel/Percico?
I mean I get Rachel's Oracle chastity vows (although it makes no sense and I hate it hence I shall deny that it was ever canon).
Okay hear me out.
Percabeth is cute and all ONLY in PJO. Sure, they're teenagers in love but nobody's first relationship is perfect. It becomes VERY clear later on in HOO that they want different things. Percy wants to retire and Annabeth keeps wanting to go on quests. Annabeth is definitely more ambitious and active than Percy, but he just wants to fly under the radar. This causes a LOT of ideological differences between Percy and Annabeth. They should have honestly broken up and I'm sorry to say this but they aren't the "perfect couple" booktok paints them to be. They have ideological differences, that's fine and that's okay as long as they don't do anything too harmful to each other.
But Rachel is just chill. She cares about Percy and it's clear Percy cares about her as well. I personally think that they have a lot of potential and would make a good couple.
And Solangelo on the other hand.
I don't get the point. Will's personality is entirely fanon at this point and he's basically just a plot point for Nico to claim that he's gay. Instead Percy's perfect for him - and they have a history together as well.
Okay maybe not him since getting over Percy was a big plot point for Nico, but you get the point. Honestly wouldn't even mind Valdez. Heck, I would love if Nico got himself a mortal boyfriend. He's probably aching to get away from the gods' stupidity. Again, anything is better than that stupid-ass impulsive decision by Rick.
I get that writers (me included) like to claim "they don't know where the story's going" but seriously, do you not know your own characters? Do you not feel each and every emotion of theirs as if it is your own? I've seen a one-shot with literally 3k words have a better characterization than that. Seriously. What the hell is Rick even paying his ghostwriters and editors for.
Also can we talk about why Bianca was just a plot point for Nico's development and depression? I was trying to create some plotlines for a fanfic I'm writing, and I realized that for some reason I can't give Nico the same development and make him make the same choices if the "Bianca dies" is non-existent. That is so stupid. Why is a character's entire personality based on the shaky foundation of all of one major plotline?

Ok I’ve been grumbling a lot so here’s what I LOVED about PJO episode seven:
- every Sally flashback. I love seeing the struggle Sally went through, mostly alone, to raise Percy separate from a world actively trying to suck him in. There’s no good explanation for being so adamant to send him away out of love. If they lived in a normal world she’d homeschool him in a heartbeat. Her kid thinks he’s unwanted and it feels like there’s nothing she can say to make her words and actions match. Heartbreaking and really well done. It also allows me a small bit of sympathy for Poseidon, who is in a similar situation on a larger scale. (Not entirely, he’s a goddamn god and all that, but I liked seeing their struggles framed as parallel, wanting to keep Percy safe and having to make hard choices to do that.)
- loving Toby Stephens as Poseidon. Cant wait for more of him.
- Annabeth gave Grover a stress ball
- annabeth immediately takes the stress ball away and I’m like >:0 only to realize it’s bc they’re about to encounter Cerberus and Annabeth is always thinking six steps ahead.
- Asphodel was haunting, I liked it a lot.
- Annabeth getting stuck because she has regrets. It gets me thinking… Percy “good kid” Jackson (who feels like a screw up constantly, who would fall on his own sword a million times before letting someone else get hurt first) and Grover Underwood (who feels directly responsible for Thalia’s death and probably a majority of his ward Percy’s misfortune) are standing RIGHT THERE. What the hell kind of regrets does Annabeth have that she’s the first to get grabbed??
- Hades is very fun. I cannot believe this is Nico’s and Bianca’s father. And Hazel’s omfg. my heart melted when he said “I will give you sanctuary.” Do you know how big a deal that is? Percy is, for all intents and purposes, THE lightning thief, who broke into YOUR underworld, slinging accusations and speeches, blaming you for a war you want no part in (and that he, as the supposed thief, is literally the cause of) and you look at this kid. This poor 12 year old. Who Does Not Know what storm he is walking into. And you tell him he is public enemy number 1, that he is not safe anywhere, but that he and his mother will be untouchable here, should he ask for it. You tell him that you saved his mother of your own volition when we know Zeus himself would not save his own child. Legendary.
#think I’m gonna make a separate post about Hades bc I really like him actually#pjo spoilers#pjo tv show#percy jackon and the olympians#percy jackson

So this is my 6 year old, Lily.
For her birthday (which was several months ago, but I wasn't on tumblr much at that point, so I didn't share, but now I feel compelled to share her awesomeness) she asked for two things - a Nico di Angelo teddy and a stygian sword.
Of course, these are not things one can just buy off the shelf, so once again, a very nerdy, creative, and determined mama set to work.

Making him was... stressful and tiring but so worth it, despite that fact, this teddy has become the bane of my existence. He has to go EVERYWHERE with her. These pictures were taken on the way back from our trip to London to see the #PercyJacksonMusical. During which she made him give running commentary on what was funny, inaccuracies, and general opinions. If she can't find him at bedtime, the house bares a striking resemblance to the underworld riots. She has had him for 4 month and he already looks like the toy completed the fictional quests himself.
Then there is the sword.

My sibling and I started with a basic foam sword and turned it into the one in the video. Safe to say she was a very happy girl. The notches were placed purely cause it looked too boring without them, but my daughter came up with a theory on how they happened:
"He was fighting a monster and hit a rock. Then he thought it looked cool, so he did it again." - Lily, the six-year-old PJO fanatic.
For world book day, she insisted on going as Nico. When I said she couldn't take her sword, she pouted and put it down. Them immediately picked up her bow and arrow and said, "Fine, I'll go as Bianca." Once I explained it was no weapons at all, she switched back to Nico.
I would like to note that no one in her class knew who she was (cause what six year old would? Other than mine...) yet it did not discourage her and she even got up in front of the class and told them all about Nico and the monsters he fights and his boyfriend Will who can "sing and glow and heal like Rapunzel". Her teacher said she had them all hooked.
A week later, I had a Dad come up to me at collection and thank me for letting her go as Nico, cause now his son was wrapped in the show and they had started reading the books as his bedtime story. He had been trying to get his son more involved with reading, but he just didn't have any interest in the younger kids' books, apparently. As of 2 months later, (He is giving me updates in the playground every time they start a new book) they are now on BotL and his little boy has never been so enthusiastic about reading or bedtime before, and the dad has started to get a little invested in the series as well.

She has also come to me with very serious questions, such as: "If Nico is the son of Hades, can he eat the underworld food?" I always happily prod and poke at the questions, trying to help her form her own conclusion. Which for this particular one was "No. He was born in the human world. He just eats the pomegranate seeds. He takes happy meals with him before he goes down." And honestly, I can't fault that logic.
Lily also seems to have a death wish of some kind as she regularly yells at thunder clouds telling Zues to "Stop wingeing!"
For her birthday, as you can probably tell or even guess, she wanted everything PJO themed but heavy on the Nico part. This involved way too much blue food, like these birthday breakfast pancakes...

There was blue lemonade that sparkled with mica powder. There were blue sweets, and if it came in a packet, it was only allowed to be a blue packet. All the presents wrapped in blue or black paper and skeleton decorations littered the place like pop-up Halloween store.
And finally her cake.

The inside was blue, of course (I still don't think my toilet has recovered from the copious amount of blue dye). The decorations are all made of chocolate, either solid or modelling. After blowing out the candles, she politely asked if she could have the trident. I smiled and pulled it free, telling her to be careful because there was a wooden stick in the centre. Taking it, she promptly raised it in the air and yelled, "THE SEA DOESN'T LIKE TO BE RESTRAINED!" Then hid behind the sofa giggling as she ate it. I asked why she was hiding, and stated very plainly, "Poisidon will be mad if he knows I'm eating his trident, so I have to do it secretly."
There really is no point to this post other than to state how amazing this girl is and how proud I am to call her my daughter!
I suppose if you want a moral or something, it would be to just let them be who or what they want. The kids that are free from pressure are often the most amazing to witness grow.

How did yandere react to people who fell in love with percy from pjo(bianca, ethan,Rachel etc)
nah you can't convince me that at least half of the camp DIDN'T have major crushes on percy fucking jackson, i KNOWWWWW deep in my bones that it's more than just those guys
ofc, anthonius, rachel, bianca, and ethan (for my fic at least) are the ones who felt actual love while everyone else had crushes/infatuations!
BUT STILL
percy jackson is soooooooo "that one hot kid everyone likes" material cuz she's PERCY FUCKING JACKSON. she's the ✨it girl✨
she is so famous (in the myth world at least, but she's also lowkey popular with the mortals close to her) and literally their number one hero (strongest demigod in history AND strongest demigod of today lmao)
she literally saved the world multiple times
is the star of many quests (some unwilling lmao)
literally EVERYONE knows her
people probably idol-worship her like nico lowkey did at the start lol 😭
also it's impossible NOT to like her. percy is canonically a genuinely good person who always tries to do the right thing. she's dependable (except when it comes to protecting ur sisters LMAO sorry), protective, sweet, friendly, generous, heroic, helpful BASICALLY A SHIT TON OF POSITIVE TRAITS 💖 she's got respect from most gods too!!! minor gods and friendly titans even like her because of what she did for them and their kids after the war!!!!
but anyways, the yanderes. would. HAAAAAAATE it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
it's one thing to be popular, but it's another to be sooooooo widely fucking loved cuz literally NONE of the yans have experienced it.
everyone knows poseidon and beelzebub but they're feared. everyone knows apollo, but he's a bit arrogant sometimes so he's not that liked, anubis is 50/50 cuz he can be annoying to some people, loki is... well, yeah 💀, hades is popular and respected but not exactly ADORED you know?
and then there's cú chulainn. he is the exact opposite of percy. EVERYONE knows him from gods to humans, but they haaaaaate his fucking ass jhfadhfvajhs 😭😭😭😭😭
percy has people who love her, like her, care for her, are loyal to her, adore her, and that's something that would blow the yandere's minds and also make them seethe in jealousy and want to horde her in their respective palaces because being popular AND loved means more love rivals and threats and they can't have that 😂

An analysis of Bianca di Angelo's role in the narrative and why bad writing can screw over a character.
For someone with such a limited time in the narrative, Bianca is one of the most divisive characters in the fandom. I've been in the fandom long enough to see how much nuance the fandom lacks when discussing certain characters and Bianca is no difference. But it's more than just viewing the characters' actions in a vacuum. It's ignoring the larger narrative problems. At the end of the day Bianca suffers from one simple problem: she's barely a character outside of her role in Nico's narrative. Like it or not, her entire character exists to die and give Nico issues down the road but Riordan's writing decisions didn't do her any favours either.
I feel like this is a huge issue when it comes to the pjo fandom they often try to come up with Watsonian solutions to problems that are Doylist in nature and Bianca is one example of that.
Case in point: Riordan's shit math when it comes to the Di Angelo siblings and how it messes up with bianca's character.
So when we meet them they're 10 and 12. We learn that their memories of their past is kinda hazy and that they don't remember their parents but that they were in a boarding school, then they moved to the lotus hotel, then they were taken out of the hotel and put into Westover's. And at the end we learn that they're Hades's children born before the oath of the big 3.
Said oath happened after WW2 btw. So 1945 probably since Bianca remembers FDR's presidency.
Now in TLO we get an update on this backstory. Hades is speaking to Maria about moving his children to the underworld or the lotus hotel since Maria doesn't like the former option because the war has put Hades in a bad situation with his brothers and also the prophecy is out, the oath has been taken and they're running out of time to hide the kids. So logic says that it's 1945. And then Zeus immediately kills Maria and Hades tells Alecto to erase the children's memories and put them in the lotus hotel, and honestly? I like this version much better? Because why in the world would Hades Put his children in a boarding school for a few years and THEN hide them in the hotel after they were nearly assassinated? Why not immediately put them in the hotel?
And so we get to our main dilemma. Bianca having to raise Nico. This was already strange to me because it's not as if this is a Jason and Thalia situation where Jason was a toddler and Thalia had to take care of him. Nico is not a baby they have a two year age difference. But of course these kinds of things might matter more if you're young. Even then, in what situation would Bianca be Nico's main caretaker? They were put into a magic hotel that mind you, makes time go faster so for them it was a month or two at best and they would have been given whatever they needed by the staff? Same type of issue with Westover's and the boarding school if you want consider that canon. They would have been taken care of by the facility. They probably wouldn't even have shared classes or dorms? Or am I misunderstanding American boarding schools?
And then, Riordan's bad math strikes again and this time with the characters' ages. Because Nico's age in HoO becomes 14 which would have made him 11/almost 12 in TTC but that's not the big problem, no no no. The problem comes from his official birthday which is 1932.
1932... Which would have made him 13 and Bianca 15 by the time Maria dies. Which is hilarious because with the way the kids are written during her death scene as absolute non players with nary a reaction, you would think they were written to be toddlers who didn't understand anything that was going on.
That royally screws over Bianca as a character (and me as someone who's trying to write a story centered around her). Because her main thing. The one time she's allowed to have complexity is the moment where she talks about how she wants to be more than Nico's caretaker, and she's barely Nico's caretaker at all. The best in universe explanation I can come up for this is that this is how Bianca perceives things because that's all that she literally remembers. Those months in the hotel and Westovers.
Another time the plot kinda messes her up is at the beginning of TTC. One complaint that I often see in regards to her Is how quickly she makes her decision. She does not even hesitate. She does not even wait to see the camp. You know the place that would have taken care of her and Nico which would have meant she wasn't going to be his supposed primary caretaker anymore? She doesn't even wait to see if it was an actual good place for her brother? Spoiler alert: it's not camp half-blood at the time was not a good place for either of them really. Nico did not have a cabin at camp and people were not accepting of him. Hell, people not being accepting of hades and his children was something established since the first book.
But once again, this is a Doylist problem at its core. We need to turn Bianca into a hunter but we also need Artemis to leave so that she can be kidnapped for the main conflict, so she leaves before the hunters even reach camp. Half-blood. So Bianca as a character doesn't even get to make a proper choice between the camp and the hunters. To people who only look at characters on an in universe level, it comes off as very rash and not well thought out.
To be fair, on an in universe level, she's a kid so it's okay if she's stupid, but Riordan wasn't trying to make her come off as that way? He treats Bianca's decision as a legit serious choice and not the rash decision of a desperate child.
And once again, Bianca is here for Nico's sake more than anything. She needs to die. So she takes the statue for Nico. Which is so ironic and tragic if you decide to play it that way. That Bianca wanted to be more than Nico's sister, but her literal death revolves around being his sister. Normally I'd enjoy this level of angsty irony but unfortunately that's how the very narrative treats her as well. Even her post mortem decisions are there to maximize Nico's angst more than that they're there to say anything about Bianca herself. We need Bianca to only appear at the end of Botl so that Nico and Percy can have a conflict but it once again comes at the cost of Bianca herself coming off as callous. What's the in universe reason for this behavior? It's so stupid because in universe, Nico doesn't even take that much convincing? One conversation. One conversation and Nico was convinced to stop his efforts in reviving her. Does she just not know her brother enough? Maybe since they technically know each other for a year max. Does she genuinely think she's that easy to give up on? Is she that conflict avoidant? I actually like this interpretation and plan to use it. There's much to be done with a character who's rash and bold but an absolute emotional coward who'd try to avoid an emotionally charged conversation until they absolutely can't.
Hell even after Botl, it's the same song and dance. Hades makes an absolute vile remark at Nico's expense. TSATS makes it into a joke moment and has you believe that Hades simple said that Bianca would have been a better demigod. No ladies and gentlemen. Hades literally tells Nico that he wished Bianca had survived instead.(The fact that I still think that hades is the best godly parent just shows you how low the bar is more than anything.)
I swear to God I spent so much time racking my brain trying to understand what this could mean for Bianca's character.

This is how I basically look like trying to milk every scene where Bianca is there as a character or is mentioned for every drop of characterization.
At the end of the day, I can't blame most of the fandom for being ambivalent towards her at best. The story by design is about Nico. It's designed for you to sympathize with him and yeah if I'm to look at it from Nico's perspective. He DID get abandoned, regardless of Bianca's intentions. From his Perspective , which is the one most people would take, his sister took the very first chance she could to ditch him for people she barely knew hoping people either of them barely knew would take care of him even though they haven't even seen the place yet, and then ignored him for months while he was desperate for a single conversation with her. Honestly had Nico outright resented his sister for leaving, I think the reaction towards her would have even been worse.
(Another sidenote, my very hot tea Is that I like to believe that had Bianca lived her and Nico's relationship would have become worse as time went on and as the camp's anti hades sentiments really started taking their toll on Nico. But I'm just an angst lover)
Worse is that this story is told from Percy's perspective and these two only have like 3 actual conversations together. One of them is her dying, one is about her making her first main decision and that's at the expense of Nico who's probably the fandom favorite behind Percy and Annabeth and the other is her trying to explain her aforementioned decision to Percy and even then, she talks about it in such broad strokes. "I want to be more than X" tells us about who you one day wish to be not about who you are at the current moment. And even when we have Nico as a POV character, Bianca is only there for "dead family member" trope. There's barely any moment where Nico remembers anything important about her to give her any depth. The cards are just stacked against her. Even the people who are at the "Bianca did nothing wrong camp" are barely interested in her. I swear to god whenever an AU comes up where she's alive, the focus is STILL on Nico. Oh Nico would have been such a happy person had she lived! And Bianca? Uhhhhh she would have fucked off with the hunters I guess?
Can we talk about the hunters while we're here?
If we WERE to talk about in universe scapegoats, I'd honestly choose the hunters. Honestly I could make a separate post about how much I hate how Riordan handled them. But oh dear God the way they're presented just comes off as creepy. The way they initially (up until TOA) only go for young girls because apparently older girls aren't useful once they hit puberty and start developing feelings for people and lose themselves(TTC and Percy Jackson's Greek gods oh dear lord are they terrible in Percy Jackson's Greek gods). How they're basically the heroine dumping ground for when Riordan doesn't know what to do with a female character. How ultimately in universe, Zoe more than anyone is to blame to for Bianca's death by taking an untrained girl to a mission where she KNOWS two people would die at the very least. And she doesn't even watch her properly during the mission. Honestly I could barely feel anything about Zoe's death upon rereads as an adult for this very reason. Or how stupid it is to basically put a child in front of a candy store and expect them to make a responsible decision. Who in their right mind would have young girls as young as nine take a celibacy vow? Oh but you'll be safe with us (never mind that we're not just normal hunters here like the actual myths but actual monster hunters) and you'll totally be able to see your brother when you want (actually we barely visit camp half-blood) oh but you'll be a FAMILY with us! Except you know if you catch feelings or get assaulted(holy hell how Riordan depicts the myth of Callisto makes me want to tear my hair out of my scalp)

Having just gone through as many Epic x PJO/Modern Epic PJO posts as I can find I am
1. Curious to see what Nico is like in this AU
2. Begging for some kind of master list of these posts because they are pure gold and I pray the next person to stumble upon them gets to dive into them
I humbly offer this pyre of pies as part of my request.

1. Oooooo! Here's the thing about Nico, I cannot conceive of a world in where Luke (who's basically the camp DAD in this au) doesn't go find the grieving ten year old—doesn't comfort the grieving ten year old. And a lot of Nico's personality is tied to him not being able to properly grieve Bianca—not having a safe environment to do so. Luke's got an apartment, has dealt with his own grief—as well as other peoples—many a time, and has a tub of peanut butter ice cream on standby. Our boy won't be good but he will be better...
But then The Battle of the Labyrinth happens...Then The Last Olympian happens and Luke comes back yes, BUT THEN JASON HAPPENS! Survivor's guilt is coming for his ass with a swiftness! At that point he's probably wondering if he cursed or some shit because it would seem anyone he gets close to is destined to die.
ALEXA PLAY MONSTER FROM EPIC THE MUSICAL!
2. I should really get on that I need a way to properly keep track of these myself 😅

When Percy "died" in BotL and went to Ogygia, everyone else thought he was actually dead-dead,no in between. And Nico was probably also freaking out because he felt his soul die in a strange way,but couldn't understand how and what was going on at the time.
But the thing is that with Thalia in the Hunt and Percy "dead",everyone thought Nico was the prophecy child, since they couldn't know about Percy and Thalia was off-limits as an immortal. And he was the only one left.
Nico was the prophecy child for a couple of days, before Percy returned.
And I can totally see Hades wanting to use this type of advantage later on,to have his son as the prophecy child in TLO,now he know he can technically do something about it. Which would explain why he would randomly want Nico to be an hero, when he literally took his children out of the Casino only a couple of months before everything was starting. If he wanted Bianca to be the child of the prophecy he should had take them out earlier,so that either she was a couple of years older than Percy or at the same age as him once Hades found out about his existence. So it was just a matter of months between the two and which day the war was going to happens. (Bianca is 12 in TTC,and since the Lotus is froze in time,if Hades took them out at the end of TLT she would have been the same age as Percy in TLO,or have Nico more older than 12.)
That's it,of course,if Bianca survived. And even with that she would probably had pulled a Thalia either way.
Idk,it was a bit OOC for Hades to kidnap Percy in TLO and have Nico as the prophecy child, since during PJO he didn't want to be with them after they isolated him,and his speech of "My children are always the evil ones,if one of them can be a hero then I will be recognized by the Olympians" is bullshit. Hades has one of the most kind and gentle child in the whole Universe and fucked him up with an inferiority complex. Nico was always one of the good ones,at the end of the day he helped them all even if they were shit to him. And it's something that it come out so strangely since in TLT Percy helped him to get his helmet back and was respectful to him (at least more than he is to the other gods),but I need to find something that makes sense about it.
Sorry about the rambling-
Anyway, yes,Nico was the prophecy child for a bit for the rest of the world. You know Zeus was dreading the day that prophecy was going to be true once he realized candidate A was out of the game. But he still escaped from it since Percy come back. Crazy thing to have on your resume.

PJO Future AU head-cannon stuff (some ARE taken from other peoples head-cannons bc they’re awesome):
- Will Solace would not be a medic/be in the medical field— I feel like just because he’s good at it doesn’t mean he likes it. Maybe he’d be a teacher because of his leadership skills.
- I feel like from working in the infirmary and having people close to him pass, Nico would choose a medical field job. I feel like he’d be an RN (registered nurse) or doctor and work at like an urgent care (er is too crazy for him— or maybe it wouldn’t and he’d like the chaos)
- I also feel like there’d be a not so great injury and Nico would be like “Oh let me see” then see it and be like “oh that’s really cool” not much would phase him— or it would but he’d find it fascinating
- I feel like the fact that they didn’t have these new kinds of tech when Nico was growing up also adds to his fascination. Like what do you mean x-Ray machines exist?
- I feel like Percy would do well with water jobs— like maybe he’d be a marine biologist and he’d find it fun to just communicate with the ocean life.
- Frank and Hazel would take a lot of dual credit classes or graduate early from highschool so they could focus on the camp— like they’d take online stuff so they could spend more time focusing on camp. (hope that makes sense) I’m not sure what I think their careers would be.
- Leo would own his own mechanic shop after going to trade school (saw on tiktok)
- Jason (revived) would be a professor of history— probably mythology.
- As a Valgrace shipper (dont judge pls) I think that they’d get together shortly after Jason is revived (not too short— six months after?) because they’ve been through a lot already and don’t want to risk anything again.
Now, onto kids because I don’t see these often but I find it fun to imagine:
- Frank would be a girl dad. He’s got two daughters and is just so happy with them and Hazel.
- Percy and Annabeth would have three kids, two girls and a son, in that order. I feel like Percy and Annabeth would work hard to have good relationships with their kids and finally relax. I feel like they’d be sorta protective but also be very relaxed with them- educate them about being mature and making good choices.
- I feel like Annabeth would realize how important names were and try to name her kids after popular figures in history who had good stories
- Will and Nico would probably have two kids, both adopted, but one would be one of Will’s half-siblings/half-nephews. The kid was really little, like four or five, when he got to camp and Will just kinda adopted him so he didn’t have to be full-time at camp. They also have a daughter but not until the son is like 12. She’s also adopted and is also a half-blood but I feel like they wouldn’t know who her godly parent is until she’s 12 and then be shocked because she’s like a child of Zeus.
- Leo and Jason would wait a while and focus on their relationship and careers. Then they’d adopt two daughters (not at the same time) and raise them where they don’t know about half-bloods until they’re older. They’d probably be half-bloods so that way they could raise them the way they wished they were raised. Leo and Jason don’t want them to have to see and experience the stuff they had to at such a young age.
- I don’t think any of them would name their kids after any of their late friends. I saw someone, a while ago, bring up that it could result in bad memories or just not be an okay time yet to do so. So— I don’t think that Annabeth would name her kid Silena and I don’t think Nico would name his kid Bianca.
- However, I do feel like Annabeth and Percy would name their eldest Sally after Percy’s mom (it would work well with the headcannon that Annabeth would name her kids after people with good stories) and have her middle name be a positive powerful historical figure.
(I realize I left Piper out— I’ve been forgetting a lot about characters recently and need to go back and reread HOO in order to grasp what I think she’d do in the future)

PJO x Miraculous
Super self-indulgent crossover au literally no one asked for time! I hope you see the vision. I had to free this from my brain at all costs.
Long-winded somehow-even-more-self-indulgent lore dump ft. all the holders below the cut. Certain characters got way more thought than others, and there's a lot of senti-shenanigans:
The Olympians - They have a role similar to the guardians in the show, having control over distributing the miraculous. The Big Three would have the strongest influence, and would all use the peacock to make their own children. All big three kids are made by their parents, with the exception of Hazel being made by one of Hades’ predecessors/ancestors.
Annabeth - Ladybug holder, hero name: Kokkitsa [bastard mix of the greek words for red (kókkinos) and the suffix (itsa) taken from ladybug (paschalítsa)]. Dreams of being an architect like in canon. Crush on civilian percy she's in hard core denial about. Earrings camouflage into her owl ones. Took a lot of inspo from her greek background when choosing her hero costume. Family dynamics similar to the Agrestes, her dad is a world famous historian.
Percy - Cat holder, hero name: Grimcat [from grimalkin and cat], sentimonster like all the other big three kids but unaware of this, amok stored in his 50¢ pen while the others all get expensive rings. Crush on Kokkista (hero Annabeth), love square dynamics are a requirement of an mlb au. Best friends with Grover. Sally runs a Dupain-Cheng Bakery style candy shop.
Grover - Goat holder, hero name: Herdwind [Herd of goats + grover's affinity for woodwind instruments] , it would be illegal to give him anything else. Uses crutches in civilian form, hero form gives him satyr features including legs that work like braces. Best friends with Percy.
Luke - Former butterfly holder, villain name: Nychtofly [based off the greek word for moth/night butterfly (nychtopetaloúda)], current holder of butterfly unknown, grew up as a surrogate brother to Annabeth like in canon. Not in love with her in this au for my own sanity. Started abusing the power of the Butterfly after discovering the irresponsible way the “guardians” used them.
Silena - Former peacock holder, became sick from overusing it while broken, died after betraying Luke and using the peacock one last time for the heroes to escape. This role could go to Ethan too, really it's up to you.
Nico - New peacock holder, stole it from Luke after Silena died. Knows all big three kids are sentis and their hero identities, basically the same role/dynamic as Felix where he tries to protect the other sentis with dubious morals. Amok is in his skull ring. Bianca's amok was destroyed so she went poof.
Hazel - Rabbit holder, senti and knows it, found the rabbit miraculous in the 30s only to get trapped in the burrows for 80+ years. Reemerged in current time unsure of where to go. Knows everyone's identities. Deep fear of going back into the burrow again, may have to overcome it during dire straits.
Chiron - Former guardian and snake holder, renounced his roles during the same fight where Silena died, morally questionable of him to only pick children to wield the miraculous and then fuck off to amnesia land. Now that I think about it, he and Fu do have a lot in common.
Rachel - Snake holder, new guardian, both roles she succeeds from Chiron, is told to join fights more as a security measure than a fighter but she still throws down, knows everyone's identities, lowkey in love with both Annie and Percy, my girl is stressed.
Clarisse - Ox holder, not much to say about her besides the fact that she’d go crazy with the ox.
Tyson - Horse holder, non-human senti brother of percy, hides his eye behind the miraculous.
Thalia - Dragon holder, senti and knows it, probably in love with Reyna, grew up with Annabeth and Luke like in canon. Her amok got destroyed some time before the story, and was later “rebuilt” again by her dad. Is she still the same person? Who knows, she’s a sentimonster ship of thesus. Queue the existential crisis.
Jason - Dog holder, senti and doesn't know it. Still Thalia’s long lost brother, he was abandoned after Zeus decided he wasn’t a perfect enough senti-son. Don’t worry, he’s not raised by wolves this time. Honestly has no idea what’s going on with all the senti-drama, he’s just trying to keep his friends happy.
Piper - Fox Holder, basically Annabeth’s Alya in the absence of Thalia. Uses her Illusions to convince people to do what she wants.
Leo - Monkey holder, makes it his life’s mission to exercise his extreme ADHD and annoy everyone with his powers.
Frank - Mouse holder, insecure about his fighting skills but learns to value himself with time.
Reyna - Tiger holder, grew up alongside Jason and is really protective of him. Overtime adopts even more siblings (Nico and Hazel) to be overprotective with. Becomes more confident in her leadership skills after gaining her miraculous and being able to lead the team during certain fights.
Meg - Bee holder, who gave the weirdly aggressive 12-year-old a miraculous?
Will - pig holder, and he's not happy about it lol. The pig feels more like a support ability, so he doesn’t do a lot of full fighting.
Octavian - Rooster holder. I lowkey just couldn’t think of anyone for the rooster, but imagining him dressed as a bird failing to figure out the arbitrary “it can’t be a wish or overlap with other miraculous” rules everytime he tries to use his powers is funny to me.

An Alternate Look at the Hunters of Artemis AKA My Ideas of a Rewrite
Or by another name: My rewrite of a cult-like group into a less toxic and more Greek cult-like group
---
As a warning, this does abstractly contain spoilers for the series. I also mention non-consensual actions such as rape, sexual assault, and abuse as there are instances of the followers of Artemis in Greek Mythology having to suffer through them.
--
Brief sidenote: I realized that the title should be “ideas for a rewrite,” or something that flows better, but I’m committed now. After my first post about my ideas regarding how Luke could be written to fall more into the category of a “fallen hero,” I’ve decided to do one regarding how the Hunters of Artemis could be written differently to be more fleshed out. I already put some of my ideas in the Luke post, but I thought I could do more than to just toss them into the post of Luke as a side note. It was too ironic for me to leave it be. Following this will be a post about my ideas regarding how Bianca di Angelo could be written differently.
--
The Hunters of Artemis are an interesting idea. A group of maidens who gain semi-immortality and eternal youth in exchange for pledging loyalty to Artemis, joining the Hunt, and swearing off love. In a society that is male-dominated and on a higher level, in a mythology that is also male-dominated, it presents an unique opportunity for women (and those who may have aro-ace sexualities) to have more of a spotlight. However, similar to Luke (but not as much), the Hunters of Artemis and Artemis herself are also controversial. When pondered upon, some people point out (rightly in my opinion) that the Hunters are a cult that recruits young girls before they hit puberty. And they aggressively recruit, as seen with Bianca. Considering Artemis appeared as a 12 year old, and it’s stated that she appears as the average age for a Hunter, that means that there are girls younger than 12 in the semi-immortal group who just hunt monsters all the time. In addition, they are often associated with misandry. Zoe hates/distrusts men over her experiences with Hercules, and Artemis turns boys/men into jackalopes for accidentally stumbling on camp.
I don’t think this was originally written to be viewed as problematic. Artemis’ actions could be excused as just cruel things gods do, but it’s presented uncritically in the text and more as a gag in contrast to some of the other gods’ actions that cause harm. And the ages for the Hunters line up with the ages in the PJO series in general. And also, the Hunters being anti-men was probably supposed to be focused more upon being a safe place for women escaping from abusive situations. But the more you think about it, the reality of the lives of the Hunters just feels off.
It’s also not necessarily just romantic love being sworn off. Being on the Hunt endlessly means that you cannot really form meaningful, long-lasting platonic relationships with people not in the group. You would rarely be able to keep in contact with non-Hunters and would hardly be able to form a new friendship while on the Hunt. Another thing is that in the original Percy Jackson series, the Hunters of Artemis were mainly just in one book and show up again during the battle of the fifth book, and as such are not delved into. It’s understandable as authors can’t necessarily flesh out everyone all the time, but considering that the Hunters were used as a plot contrivance to cause tension between some of the girl characters and the boys in their life and for Thalia to escape the prophecy, it would have been nice to see.
Coming to the basis of my post, I will be presenting my ideas for a rewrite of the Hunters of Artemis and Artemis herself to be more willing to accept the reality of the endless cycle of fighting that being a Greek demigod subjects you to, and to be more sympathetic to the plight of demigods respectively. The Hunters would be more focused on chasing kleos (renown) and arete (personal excellence). This would make the Hunters a direct contrast to Percy and some others in Camp Half-Blood who are reluctant heroes, and more desirable of a prospect to join for those in the camp who desire glory/ambition/fame. In order for these concepts to be realized, I will be reducing the misandry that is implied and also outright stated, and making them instead more distrustful of outsiders and arrogant of their abilities (callback to the origin of the word “barbarian” and the arrogance that ancient Greeks sometimes had). However, this does not mean I will take away from the sympathetic origins of their misandry. I think it is an interesting concept for the Hunters to also be a refuge for those escaping either societal norms (of what a woman should be, of valuing sexuality/romance) and abusive situations (escaping unwanted sexual advances, the gods).
--
If you’re interested more in the origin of Riordan’s Hunters of Artemis, this post goes into how the followers of Artemis were like in Greek mythology: https://www.reddit.com/r/camphalfblood/comments/108e0mg/the_hunters_of_artemis_in_greek_mythology_general/
--
Now for the rewrite, which focuses more on the concepts of the Hunters, rather than actually going for a book for book rewrite of how they are written:
The Hunters of Artemis are a group of hunters. When Percy meets them in Titan’s Curse, they are made up of all women. However, it is not a necessity to be a woman to join them. Artemis accepts all talented people who forswear worldly pleasures (most prominently romantic love) for the sake of the Hunt. Artemis’ group has a reputation for being mostly made up of women due to how society historically has been structured. Men have more opportunities to freely hunt monsters and animals, solo or otherwise, than women who are bound by societal norms to the household and ostracized for having more “masculine” capabilities. Some women are able to throw off the yokes of society, but usually those who do are either born in noble households or use tricks to deceive people into thinking they are men. While the goddesses are respected, it is rare for a mortal woman or nymph to go down in history as a famous [Greek] hero. Many who join the Hunt do so in order to have an opportunity to be known for fighting alongside a goddess or be famous for taking down a mythical beast or prey. They constantly strive to hone their capabilities to be the best. A struggle to be known, to be great.
--
As a goddess associated with the hunt, Artemis highly values competence. As such, most of her hunters are 16/18 and older as they are more athletically capable, mature, and better at strategy when they are older. However, as she is also associated with children and chastity, she has a fondness for children and maidens. She allows younger teens/children to join if they prove they have the capability for greatness and have nowhere else to go. (The way to still allow for the tension caused in Titan’s Curse)
--
Due to historic prejudices against women and terrible experiences, some of the women Hunters are distrustful of men. They warily accept the men who join the Hunt, but consider them ‘different’ as these men swear off romantic love in order to serve Artemis and are not considered a danger to them or their chastity.
--
Some gods like Aphrodite, who considers it an affront that the Hunters are swearing off her domain, are a threat to the chastity and well-being of the hunters. She performs tricks of temptation to get both men and women Hunters’ chastity vow broken or imperil them. This causes many Hunters to become distrustful of outsiders and the potential danger they carry to be an agent, accidental or otherwise, of the gods using them as pawns. [I would make it worse, but I don’t think PJO has that many instances of rape/sexual assault as done by the gods. I haven't read Riordan's book on Greek Mythology, but I don't think he would as it would make the gods pretty horrific and unsympathetic in modern times considering how many people they raped. My apologies in advance if I'm wrong about this].
--
Artemis was once highly petty towards any slight. Anyone breaking the vow of chastity without asking for permission would face her wrath, whether it was voluntarily breaking it or by being subject to non-consensual actions by other gods. Overtime, as Artemis spent more time with her followers, she became less wrathful and more understanding of the dilemma of mortals to be disregarded by the gods. While she is still petty and takes any betrayal of trust seriously, she is less vengeful. She will willingly let people leave the Hunt if they ask, as she has no tolerance for incompetence arising from people straying from making the Hunt their main goal. But she will take revenge if someone breaks their oath consensually without asking her. As like the wilderness, if you do not respect her and take the dangers seriously, you will face the consequences. She is more of a patron and protector of her dominions of the wilderness, children, and the hunt.
She has two main differences from a majority of the other gods in the PJO series. She does not have any demigod children. She spends a lot of time with her Hunters. This gives Artemis an unique perspective - she can better understand the struggles of demigods/mortals trying to fit into a world trying to kill them, and as she is the one taking oaths from the Hunters, she personally takes responsibility for all the Hunters who she takes into her crew. It is a way of life that features direct, sustained contact with mortals and their deaths that the other gods do not have. She still is unable to truly empathize with mortals due to being a goddess and holds mortals who are more capable at hunting as better than the rest, but she has the capability of being more sympathetic than the rest of the gods.
I think portraying Artemis as having flaws that comes from being immortal is important, but showing a goddess who doesn’t just mess with mortals is a good example of what the gods could be and shows a vision to Percy that gods may be capable of change and taking responsibility. As it stands, most of his exposure to the Olympians is that of dead-beat parents who don’t really acknowledge their children and only sometimes help when the children are in mortal danger. And that too, it can be a form of help like turning someone into a tree. This would be a contrast to that and another way of showing that Luke/Kronos are not right that all gods are terrible and don’t care about demigods.

Artemis and her Hunters are independent, free, and wild. Free from romantic bonds and free to be skilled. They are also, however, untameable, arrogant, and slow to change their opinions. They are, afterall, semi-immortal. They are not just distrustful of what some men may do out of extreme lust, but they also look down on the capabilities of those who are not Hunters. They believe that due to them eternally honing their skills, they are better than the rest of the nymphs/mortals and they have the skillset to back that up most of the time.
--
As some join the Hunters to seek glory, they immensely value their skills and eulogize their dead comrades. It is important for them to pass down the memories of those who are dead, to honor those who they think are heroes, regardless of gender. They hold campfire bonfires and sing songs of their glorious deeds during the Hunt. They actively seek out the Hunt and do not shy away from danger nor the threat of death. They recognize that the life of a mortal who is aware of the Greek mythical world is oftentimes short and unpredictable, and they ironically choose to embrace that by eternally chasing after glory and accepting they may die via battle. Afraid of just being a footnote in the long list of short demigod lives.
This is sort of a homage to the oral traditions of the Iliad and Odyssey and some of the values in those epic poems.
It’s also a subversion of it. In the Iliad and in Greek mythology, the concepts of arete and kleos are often associated with men and famous poets and storytellers are men, with a few exceptions made for women. The Hunters, on the other hand, are mostly women with some men. They are the ones continuing on the culture/traditions of the Greek heroes.

When the Hunters interact with the demigods of Camp Half-Blood, they do not get along. The Hunters believe they are better than the rest of the demigods and prove this by repeatedly trouncing them in Capture the Flag. On a few occasions, with strategies that the Ares and Athena cabin came up with, Camp Half-Blood beat the Hunters, but it is not common.
A lot of the Hunters are also very blunt and free with the words. They are not expected to be charismatic or speak nicely to others, only to focus on the Hunt and training. As such, the campers view the Hunters as jerks who do not have a filter.
The demigods of Camp Half-Blood have mixed reactions to the Hunters. Some feel awed by the Hunters’ skill. Most feel slighted by the arrogance (and the superior skill) of the Hunters. [Who actually likes being beat down and talked down to over and over again, even if they may be right in being more skilled.] As such, the Cabins are split on their reactions to the Hunters. Some try to prank them and brag about the worldly pleasures they can indulge in (not just romantic relationships, but technology and movies and free time). Others just avoid the Hunters, wanting to not deal with the headaches of the contentious relationship.
Whenever Camp Half-Blood and the Hunters meet there is an exchange of people. Some Hunters leave the group, lured in by the promise of either a more peaceful life or being able to be free to engage in romantic relationships. Some campers join the Hunters, longing for the chance to prove themselves or not interested in pursuing romance or other worldly pleasures.
The Hunters get along best with the Apollo Cabin. It is a chance for them to spread the songs and poems of their deeds and dead comrades, and to get ideas for songs from Apollo’s children. Due to Apollo and Artemis being siblings, the Hunters trust Apollo’s children and vice versa. They are the only ones who do not get into arguments. Just disagreements on composing verses and dancing.
The Hunters are especially distrustful of the Aphrodite Cabin and get into frequent arguments and fights with them. Both Hunters and the Aphrodite Cabin view the other’s lead goddess as being disrespectful to their values, and take it upon themselves to school the other cabin. This ranges from physical fights, to pranks, to verbal fights, moral arguments, and such.
For this to work, the Aphrodite Cabin would need to have a more varied representation so they aren’t just trounced by the Hunters. Some should be war-like and fierce in their protection of love, as Aphrodite is considered more war-like in Sparta. Some should have abilities over charm-speak and use it defensively or as a manipulation tactic offensively. Some should be vain, some should be hopeless romantics. Some should be femme fatales, some should think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All variations on tropes associated with beauty, love, and lust. And all passionately believing in the things Aphrodite rules over. They all should have some basic self-defense skills as they are demigods living in an unfriendly world. They don’t need to be good at battle, just have basic self-defense. As Aphrodite is not good in battle in the Iliad, it would make sense for most of the Aphrodite Cabin to not prefer battle, but to have some very capable fighters. Kinda playing on the different aspects of gods and how it can affect children.
My themes for this interpretation stem mainly from concepts present in Ancient Greek literature. Heroes who hold glory, renown, fame, and personal skill paramount to all else. These concepts and skills in warfare are usually associated with men as it was men who went out to battle. By having the Hunters of Artemis exemplify the personalities and values of the Ancient Greek heroes, it calls into question what concepts we identify as ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ and why that is.
What makes a group of people or a society hold one value above the other? What is worth dying for? Who tells the tales our culture rests on, and how are people remembered? Some people may value romance, and some people may not value it. Is there a true way to live? What makes a god sympathetic to mortals, and can they come to care for those weaker than them? Does being immortal make you slow to change your opinions, think you are inherently better than others, and distrustful of others?
These are all questions that I sought to make apparent in my idea for an alternate way of how the Hunters of Artemis could be written.
